“Reproduction” and “vintage” are often used as if they were opposites. For buyers, the useful question is narrower: which authentic option fits your budget, risk tolerance and how you will actually wear the bag?
Official reproduction — usually stronger when#
- You want predictable construction and current house standards
- You prefer a cleaner condition story with clearer paperwork paths
- You care more about wearability than archival rarity
Vintage / pre-owned archival — usually stronger when#
- You want a specific historical proportion, leather or hardware language
- The right condition example is priced more attractively than current stock
- You are prepared to inspect condition, restorations and provenance carefully
Shared rules for both paths#
- Define model, size, colour and hardware before you fall in love with a photo set.
- Separate asking price from landed cost (shipping, duties, authentication, possible repair).
- Treat remote photos as evidence — not a guarantee. See Authentication.
- Read value commentary as analysis, not a promise. See Price Guides.
