The short answer: PM is the compact daily option, MM is the broadest everyday fit for many buyers, and GM is the capacity-first choice for travel or larger loads. Confirm the current dimensions and test your real contents before buying.
PM: compact tote behaviour#
Start with PM if you want the shape of a Neverfull without carrying a broad work or travel load. It is better suited to daily essentials than bulky pouches, laptops or layered travel items.
Check the handle drop against the clothing you normally wear. A tote that works over a light top may feel different over a structured coat.
MM: the everyday middle#
MM is often considered first because it can bridge daily and light work use. Its usefulness depends on the size of your computer, document format and how much weight you are comfortable carrying on slim shoulder straps.
Do not use “fits a laptop” as a complete test. Confirm device dimensions, protective sleeve thickness and whether the remaining space keeps the bag balanced.
GM: volume for travel#
GM prioritises volume. It can make sense for flights, family carry or buyers who deliberately want an oversized silhouette. More space also invites overpacking, which increases pressure on handles, trim and shoulder comfort.
For pre-owned examples, examine the base, upper trim, handle attachment points, side laces, corners and interior for signs of repeated heavy loads.
Pack a paper footprint before deciding#
Use the dimensions from the current official regional listing to make a paper rectangle for each candidate. Place your daily items within it, then consider depth and opening shape. This simple exercise is more reliable than judging size from modelled photographs alone.
Material and trim come next#
After choosing size, compare canvas pattern, interior colour and trim condition. Natural leather trim can develop patina and show water marks; other trims produce different visual and maintenance trade-offs. On a pre-owned bag, request neutral-light close-ups rather than relying on a general grade.
My practical recommendation#
Choose PM for a deliberately compact daily tote, MM for adaptable everyday use and GM only when the additional capacity solves a real need. If you are between sizes, list the five largest items you carry and compare those first.
