Chanel vintage has been building momentum for years, but the live-action Barbie film pushed the category into overdrive. The movie is packed with 1990s Chanel archive pieces, and the standout — a heart-shaped “face-covering bag” — is already trading around HK$200,000, with collectors expecting prices to more than double on the current craze.
Barbie Brings Back Chanel’s 1990s Archive#
Beyond the retro Barbie looks created for Margot Robbie, Chanel loaned and recreated several Karl Lagerfeld designs from the 1990s for the film, including:
- CHANEL pink heart-shaped handbag (the “face-covering bag”)
- CHANEL pink rhinestone cosmetic pouch
- CHANEL colorful rhinestone necklace
- CHANEL pink skirt suit
- CHANEL pink and purple tweed suit

The Pink Heart-Shaped Tote#
The heart-shaped bag featured in the film is a recreation of a 1995 classic. That original release carried a bold CC logo on a chain strap — a silhouette so distinctive that celebrities famously held it in front of their faces during paparazzi encounters, earning it the nickname “face-covering bag.”
Production numbers were limited, and resale prices have stayed elevated ever since. Color variants of the same style already command around HK$150,000 on the secondary market. With Barbie mania in full swing, collectors anticipate another sharp jump.

The 1995 heart-shaped bag is expected to appreciate well beyond its current market price.#
The Pink Rhinestone Cosmetic Pouch#
Barbie’s vanity case comes from Chanel’s Spring/Summer 1995 collection, designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Pink patent leather, gold-plated hardware, and rhinestone trim make it instantly recognizable.

The Colorful Rhinestone Necklace#
Margot Robbie pairs a pink Chanel jumpsuit with a gem-studded choker in the film. Oversized stones linked by CC hardware create a statement that is impossible to miss.
The necklace is actually two pieces combined: a colorful jewelry choker from Lagerfeld’s 1995 collection layered with an antique Chanel heart pendant. The resulting combination is effectively one-of-a-kind.
Barbie fever has pushed comparable 1995 Chanel jewelry to roughly HK$220,000 on the resale market.

The Pink Skirt Suit#
The pink tweed skirt suit Robbie wears on screen is another 1995 Spring/Summer piece. Claudia Schiffer modeled the original runway look that season — a fitting choice for a film nicknamed after the “human Barbie.”

The Pink and Purple Tweed Suit#
Chanel’s pink-and-purple tweed jacket suit is also a 1995 style, again worn by Schiffer on the runway. Corset-inspired paneling at the waist cinches the silhouette, balancing structure with a distinctly feminine line.

Since Barbie’s release, Chanel vintage prices have climbed again. Collectors hunting rare models at fair prices should watch for limited-time promotions at trusted resellers.
